Classroom Etiquette

Classroom Etiquette
1. Students are expected to arrive on time and remain for the duration of class. Please do not leave early without notifying the professor in advance. Impromptu class exercises may be given after you leave.
2. Attendance is required per University Policy in that it keeps you informed and ultimately affects your grade.

Examination Policy

Examination Policy
1. Plan to arrive on time for scheduled exams.
2. Hand in the completed exam and answer sheet before exiting the examination room. We may take our exam in the computer lab using Blackboard. Be prepared to show your picture ID when handing in the exam.
3. Don't cheat. Students found guilty of cheating (including plagiarism) will be subject to university disciplinary procedures. Penalty may include, but is not limited to, a grade of F for the course.
4. Exams must be taken on the assigned date as indicated in the syllabus. Make-up exams:
(A). Will generally not be given.
(B). Exceptions will be made only in the most extreme cases.
(C). Exceptions require advanced notification/arrangements before the examination.
(D). You must be able to provide documentation (not just your word).
(E). Make-up exams may not be the same exam as the one given in class and will generally be much more difficult.
5. Incomplete Grades- Incomplete grades will generally not be assigned.

Privacy of Grades- Scores and grades will be posted on the website. You may access your grades at any time by clicking on the “My Grades” button after logging into Blackboard.

Blackboard Website Registration - An official email address is required for Blackboard server registration: Please send your official email address to: deondra@lorman.alcorn.edu
Missed Classes - Please do not contact the professor to find out what you missed. Students are expected to obtain any and all class notes and announcements from other students for any missed classes. It is advisable to make arrangements with a fellow classmate early in the semester to obtain such information.

Make-up Policy- Arrangements must be made prior to missing class. In case of an emergency and you are unable to contact the professor prior to missing class, you must provide documentation verifying the emergency. Do not ask the professor to take your word for your reason for missing class (e.g., I had a cold, I was sick, A relative passed, etc…). Missed assignments must be made-up in a timely manner. Do not delay contacting the professor after missing class. The more time you allow to pass after missing an assignment, the less any make-up work will be worth.

Project/Presentation- Early in the semester the class will be divided into teams. Each team will be assigned a topic for presentation. Individual grades will be based on: 1. The professor's overall evaluation of the team's performance, 2. The class' evaluation of the team's presentation, and 3. Your fellow team members’ evaluations of your participation. You must properly manage the relationship with your team members or your team project/presentation grade may suffer. Alternatively, individual projects may be assigned based on class size.

Plagiarism Policy - To steal the words, ideas, etc. of another and use them as one’s own. (New Webster’s Dictionary, 1997, p. 287). Plagiarized work will receive an automatic F. Here is an excellent website that further explains just what plagiarism is and how to avoid it. http://www.indiana.edu/~wts/pamphlets/plagiarism.shtml

Class-Participation- Consists of a variety of factors including: attendance, in-class assignments, and outside-of-class assignments. General behavior that impedes the progress of the class (e.g., distracting behavior such as talking while the professor is talking, reading newspapers, working on material from another class, leaving class early without prior notification, eating/drinking in class, etc...) will negatively affect class-participation. Participating in class discussions and answering the professor’s questions can positively affect class-participation.

Exercises/Readings- Posting on the discussion board, various readings, and class exercises will be assigned every week and accompany each chapter. Most will be announced during the preceding class, posted on the web, or by e-mail. Always check the website for newly posted assignments, although some may be given in class with the exercise.
